This beautiful vintage hardback edition of Flowers of the Field by Rev C A Johns was published by George Routledge and Sons. The book is bound in green cloth over bevelled boards, with gilt floral decoration blind stamped to the front board. There was gilt lettering to the spine but this is very dulled and and hard to make out. The book is undated but there is a written name inside dated 1926. So the book is likely to be around 100 years old.
It's in good condition for it's age but there is some wear to the corners and very slight air bubbling to the cloth on the front board. The back board shows some faint scratches. As mentioned above, the gilt on the spine is very dulled and worn so the lettering is quite hard to make out. There is crushing to the spine ends.
Inside, there is a written name and date on the front free endpaper and slight cracking to the gutter at the title page. The tissue guard for the frontispiece is tanned. The pages show light age toning, with occasional minor marking. There are superficial cracks to the gutter in places but there are no loose pages.
The book features beautiful colour plates, alongside black and white line drawings within the text.
Dimensions approximately 22cm x 15cm x 4.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
