This beautiful edition of Flowers from Many Lands was a Christian Companion for Hours of Recreation. It was published by the Religious Tract Society. The book itself is undated but I'd estimate it to be from the mid Victorian era (circa 1870's). The first edition was published in 1855 - this is a "new" edition.
The book is bound in blue cloth with blind stamped decoration and gilt to the front board and spine. It's in good condition but there is wear and crushing to the corners. The board edges are worn and the boards show marking and discolouration. The spine is sunned and dulled, whilst crushing to the spine ends has caused splitting in the cloth. There is a pronounced forward lean to the book.
Inside, the front free endpaper has been removed and the book opens onto the verso of the frontispiece. The pages show heavy age toning with occasional foxing and staining. with occasional age related stains. There are occasional cracks to the gutter which reveals the binding thread but the pages remain tightly bound. The book has eight stunning colour plates. Most plates are missing their tissue guards.
Dimensions approximately 16.8cm x 11.2cm x 2.2cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
