This beautiful first edition of The Blue Poetry Book by Andrew Lang was published by Longmans, Green and Co in 1891.
The book is bound in blue cloth with gilt decoration to the front board and spine. It's in good condition for it's age with the most noticeable wear being to the spine - it's sunned and darkened, with rubbing to the edges. The spine ends are crushed which has caused splitting in the cloth. The boards show minor marks and scuffs and there is creasing to the back board. The book shows a slight forward lean and the corners are worn and crushed which has caused minor fraying to the cloth.
Inside, there is very slight cracking to the hinges but the pages remain tightly bound. There are two names and dates written inside - one on the half title page and one on the opposite page. There is age toning and foxing throughout and sadly the tissue guard for the frontispiece is missing. There is superficial cracking to the gutter in places, but as mentioned above, all the pages remain tightly bound.
The book is filled with beautiful black and white illustrations by H J Ford.
Dimensions approximately 18.8cm x 13.5cm x 3cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubbled wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough)
