This lovely edition of A Manual of the Mollusca or A Rudimentary Treatise of Recent and Fossil Shells was published by John Weale in 1851. The softcover book is bound in original publisher's green cloth with paper label to the front.
It's in good condition but there is discolouration and spotting to the cloth. The spine and part of the back cover is faded. There is splitting and minor loss to the cloth at the spine ends and there is a 2 inch split to the bottom of the front joint and another split to the centre of the back joint.
Inside, the inner hinges are split but the pages remain securely bound. The pages show light age toning and sporadic foxing - there is a name and date in pen to the front free endpaper, alongside an old pencil price. All plates present - 12 in total, plus the frontispiece, by Waterhouse and Lowry. Numerous black and white illustrations within the text.
Dimensions approximately 18.1cm x 11cm x 1.6cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned paper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
