This wonderful book of The Chaplet An Elegant Literary Miscellany was published by J Harwood. The book itself is undated but after some research, I've managed to date the book to the 1840's. It is finely bound in full Morocco, with intricate gilt to the boards and spine. All edges gilt.
It's in very good condition, with crushing and light wear to the corners and bumping to the board edges. There is some minor loss to the surface of the leather to the bottom edges of the boards. The front and spine are a little dulled but this is only noticeable when compared to the back.
Inside, there is cracking to the hinges as well as to the gutter in places. There are no detached pages. The pages show heavy foxing and age toning, particularly to the plates and adjacent pages. Some of the plates have small tears to the edges and one tissue guard has a larger tear.
Dimensions approximately 24.1cm x 17.4cm x 3cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in bubble wrap, patterned paper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
