This beautiful, antique edition of It Is Never Too Late to Mend by Charles Reade was published by Walter Scott Publishing Company. The book itself is undated but after some research, I estimate it to have been published circa 1900.
The book is bound in blue cloth over bevelled boards with stunning floral decoration in an art nouveau style to the front and spine. All edges gilt. It's in good condition but there is wear and light soiling to the boards, and some chipping to the floral decoration. The spine is faintly sunned whilst crushing to the spine ends has caused very minor splitting in the cloth. There is wear and light bumping to the board edges and the corners are crushed. The gilt edges are soiled and marked.
Inside, there is a lending library sheet stuck to the front pastedown and another library label to the back. The verso of the frontispiece has a penned name and a place and date in pencil. The pages show age toning throughout with sporadic foxing and occasional handling marks.
Dimensions approximately 20.8cm x 14.8cm x 4.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubbled wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
