This stunning edition of Tom Brown's Schooldays by An Old Boy features stunning art nouveau boards designed by Ethel Larcombe. The book was published by Blackie and Son. The book is undated but these editions were brought out between 1900 and 1910.
Ethel Larcombe was born and raised in Exeter where her parents owned a small school. She was employed by Talwin Morris (famed for his beautiful art nouveau book covers) on a freelance basis, to design covers for both Gresham and Blackie and Son.
The book is in very good condition with just light wear to the corners and foxing to the text block edges. The spine ends are crushed.
Inside, there is a presentation plate glued to the front free endpaper and there is tanning to the endpapers. The pages show light age toning and scattered foxing (most prominent to the margins).
The book features a handful of lovely colour plates throughout.
Dimensions approximately 18.5cm x 13cm x 3cm.
All books purchased will be hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I'm gradually switching over to eco-friendly packaging, including 100% recyclable jiffy bags :)
