This beautiful antique edition of British Heroes in Foreign Wars or Cavaliers of Fortune by James Grant was published by George Routledge and Sons. The book itself is undated but there is a written inscription dated 1877. So the book is from the mid Victorian era.
The book is bound in half Morocco with five raised bands and gilt tooling to the spine. The text block edges are marbled. The book is in surprisingly good condition for it's age but there is wear to the corners and board edges, with some loss to the surface of the leather. The boards show some light marking, rubbing and soiling. The spine is darkened, with minor wear and chipping to the leather. The top edge of the text block is dulled.
Inside, the endpapers are marbled and there is a written inscription on one of the preliminary blank pages. The pages show light age toning and sporadic foxing but the text is clear and bright.
Dimensions approximately 18cm x 13cm x 3.8cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
