This beautiful vintage edition of A True Gentlewoman by Emma Marshall; Passages in the Life of Dame Margaret Hoby was published by John F Shaw and Co. The book itself isn't dated but I'd estimate it to be from the Edwardian era (1901 - 1910).
The book is bound in original green pictorial cloth with gilt lettering to the front and spine. All edges gilt. It's in good condition, with wear and crushing to the corners which has caused slight splitting to the cloth at the bottom corners. The boards show minor marks and the spine is sunned and dulled. Crushing to the spine ends has caused some splitting in the cloth and there is a small hole in the cloth near the middle of the back joint.
Inside, the FFEP has been removed and there is a penned number to the front pastedown. The pages show tanning and scattered foxing throughout. Some of the top corners have been dog eared by a previous reader which has left creasing behind. Dimensions approximately 20.8cm x 14.8cm x 4.4cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubbled wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
