This beautiful edition of Beeton's All About Gardening A Dictionary of Garden Work is a Popular Dictionary of Garden Work and is an Entirely New and Greatly Enlarged Edition. It was published by Ward, Lock and Co Ltd in 1895 so the book is from the latter part of the Victorian era.
The book is bound in green cloth with blind stamped lettering and detail in black to the front board. The spine has stunning floral detail in gilt, alongside gilt lettering. It's in very good condition, with light bumping to the corners and board edges. There is foxing to the text block edges and minor marks to the cloth. The spine is slightly darkened, with crushing to the spine ends.
Inside, there is tanning to the endpapers and slight cracking to the front hinge - the pages remain tight to the binding. The pages show scattered foxing throughout and there is a small chip to the bottom of the Preface page. The book has 500 black and white illustrations within the text.
Dimensions approximately 20.5cm x 13.7cm x 3.4cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
