This beautiful edition of The Young Botanists was published by the Religious Tract Society. The book itself is undated but I'd estimate it to be from the mid to late Victorian era. It was published anonymously and was designed to teach children and young adults about plants and nature through the lens of Christian theology
The book is bound in blue cloth with stunning blind stamped decoration and gilt to the front board and spine. It's in good condition but the spine is sunned and discoloured. Crushing to the spine ends has caused some splitting in the cloth and there is rubbing to the spine edges. The book has a forward lean and wear to the cloth has caused minor splitting.
Inside, there is a crossed out inscription on the front pastedown and some pencilled scribbles across the front endpaper. There are cracks to the hinges and gutter which has caused one page segment to protrude from the edge of the text block but there are no loose pages. The pages show age toning through with sporadic foxing and handling marks.
The book is filled with beautiful black and white illustrations. Dimensions approximately 16cm x 10.5cm x 1.2cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
