This stunning edition of A Motor Scout in Flanders by Captain Chas Gilson was published by Blackie and Son. The book is undated but I'd estimate it to be circa 1920 (it's set during the First World War).
The book is beautifully bound in brown cloth with pictorial decoration to the front board and spine. It's in remarkably good condition considering it's approximately 100 years old. The corners are worn and bumped, with some minor fraying to the cloth. The boards show light marking and scuffing, and there is some water damage to the bottom corner of the back board. The text block edges show significant foxing and the spine ends are crushed.
Inside, the pages show foxing and age toning throughout. There are superficial cracks to the gutter in places but the pages remain tightly bound. There is dried glue to the half title page where someone tried to repair the hinge. One plate is a little loose but still attached.
Dimensions approximately 19cm x 13.5cm x 4cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubbled wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
