This lovely Victorian edition of A Year with the Wild Flowers by Edith Waddy was published by Wesleyan Conference Office. It is undated. But I’d estimate it to be 1870’s or 1880’s - the book was given marbled endpapers in the 1890’s so a presentation plate could be added (probably covering up an original inscription or presentation plate) The book is bound in original green cloth over bevelled boards, with blind stamped decoration in black to the front board and spine. Gilt lettering.
It's in very good condition with light wear to the corners and board edges. There is foxing to the text block edges and very minor marking to the green cloth. The spine edges are rubbed, whilst crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth. The spine is very faintly sunned.
Inside, as mentioned above, the book has been given marbled endpapers over the original endpapers. There is a presentation plate to the front pastedown. The pages are clean and bright with scattered foxing and toning to the preliminary pages. The binding thread can be seen at the gutter in places - pages are tightly bound.
There are striking half tone plates, as well as black and white illustrations within the text.
Dimensions approximately 16cm x 12.6cm x 2cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
