This beautiful edition of A Song of the English by Rudyard Kipling is Illustrated by W Heath Robinson and was published by Hodder and Stoughton. The book is undated but after some research, it appears this binding was brought out in the early 1900's (circa 1910). The book has a removable clear plastic cover.
The book is bound in blue cloth with decoration to the front board and spine - it's got quite an art nouveau feel to it. It's in very good condition for it's age, but there is light wear and bumping to the corners. The boards show minor marking and scuffing, and the spine ends are crushed which has caused very minor splitting to the head of the spine.
Inside, there is a name plate to the front pastedown and a written inscription on the front free endpaper. The endpapers are tanned and marked; the rest of the pages show lighter age toning and foxing. There are some superficial cracks to the gutter in places but the pages remain tightly bound.
The book is filled with beautiful tipped in colour plates by the iconic illustrator W Heath Robinson, as well as black and white line drawings.
Dimensions approximately 25cm x 19cm x 3cm.
The book will be gift wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
