This wonderful 1940's edition of Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen was published by William and Norgate in 1949. It features a contemporary half calf leather binding, with gilt tooling and five raised bands to the spine.
It's in very good condition, with the most noticeable flaw being some water damage to the bottom of the book. This has left faint staining behind and slightly bowed the bottom of the boards. There is also some chipping and minor loss to the surface of the leather (along the top edges of the boards and the spine ends).
Inside, the hinges have been reinforced with cloth tape and there is a presentation plate glued to the front free endpaper. The endpapers are marbled. The pages are clean and bright with only very occasional foxing. There is a date written in pen to the top corner of a preliminary blank page.
Dimensions approximately 19cm x 13.5cm x 3.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
