This lovely edition of The Blue Bird by Maurice Maeterlinck was published by Methuen and Co in 1911. The book features a stunning pink leather binding (an unusual colour for leather) with gilt floral decoration to the front and spine. It has a homemade slipcase - amusingly made from an income tax repayment card.
Externally, it's in very good condition with sunning and discolouration to the slipcase and minor marking. The spine is lightly faded and there are some faint marks and scuffs to the leather. There is also foxing to the text block edges.
Inside, there is a written inscription on the front free endpaper and sadly two pages have been removed between the title page and Preface note. The pages are clean and bright with occasional foxing.
Dimensions approximately 17.3cm x 11cm x 2.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
