This beautiful First Edition of British Land Mammals by A Nicol Simpson made up part of the Peeps at Nature series. It was published by Adam and Charles Black in 1912 and was the first edition of this popular work.
The book is bound in beige paper with floral decoration to the front and spine. The front also has a pasted on colour illustration. It's in good condition but there is splitting to the head and tail of the joints. The corners are worn and bumped, with some minor loss to the surface of the paper. There is sunning and darkening to the spine, and crushing to the spine ends. The back board shows light marking.
Inside, there is a name and date in pen to the front free endpaper and an old pencilled price. The pages show light age toning and scattered foxing but the text is clear and bright. There is a pencilled scribble to the bottom of page 5.
The book features both stunning colour plates and black and white illustrations from photographs.
