This lovely antique edition of The Forest Lovers by Maurice Hewlett was published by Macmillan and Co in 1898. It is a first edition but it's missing it's half title page which is how one determines whether this is a first issue.
This lovely book is bound in green cloth with illustrative decoration in dark green of a forest and rabbits to the front and spine.
It's in good condition with just light wear and crushing to the corners. There is some light discolouration and marking to the boards, and rubbing to the board edges. The spine is faded and discoloured, whilst crushing to the spine ends has caused slight splitting in the cloth.
Inside, the front free endpaper and half title page have been removed and the pages show heavy tanning, particularly to the margins. The end pages show heavy foxing but the rest of the pages show sporadic foxing. Some of the top corners have been dog eared by a past reader which has left creasing behind.
Dimensions approximately 19.8cm x 14cm x 4cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubbled wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
