This beautiful edition of Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen was published in 1911 by John Grant. It was part of the Winchester collection and is a sought after binding by Austen collectors.
The book is bound in blue cloth with gilt decoration to the spine. The page edges are rough cut which is a lovely feature in old books and somehow makes them feel even older - like you're handling parchment!
The book is in good condition for it's age but there are condition points to be aware of. The corners are bumped and worn, with the cloth split to reveal the board beneath. The boards are marked (it looks like white paint to the back board) and the board edges show some rubbing. The spine edges are rubbed and the spine is lightly sunned and marked. There is a little loss and rubbing to the gilt on the spine. Crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting to the cloth.
Inside the pages are in good, antique condition - the pages show light age toning and occasional foxing.
Dimensions approximately 22 cm x 16 cm.
The books will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
