This stunning two volume mid Victorian edition of The Life of Oliver Goldsmith by John Forster was published by Bickers and Sons in 1877. The books are uniformly bound in half leather with marbled paper boards. The spines features five raised bands and gilt tooling.
The books are in very good condition but there is rubbing to the boards with minor loss to the surface of the paper. There is also wear to the board edges which has caused peeling and loss to the paper. There is wear tot he corners, with loss to the leather, revealing the board beneath; the text block edges show significant foxing. The spines are very faintly sunned with rubbing to the raised bands.
Inside, the endpapers are beautifully marbled and there are no inscriptions. The pages show light age toning and scattered foxing.
Dimensions of each volume approximately 22.5cm x 15.2cm x 3.3cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string. The bubble wrap I use is 100% biodegradable and the jiffy bags are recyclable.
Where possible, I use 100% recyclable paper tape, but sometimes I have to use clear plastic tape for extra strength.
