This beautiful two volume edition of Mansfield Park by Jane Austen was published in 1909 by Chatto and Windus. Each book is bound in complimentary green cloth with a portrait illustration to the front boards framed in gilt. This binding is best known for it's stunning colour illustration plates by A Wallis Mills and has become quite a sought after collection with Jane Austen collector's.
The books are in good condition for their age but they both show a forward lean. There is light wear to the corners and bumping to two corners. The boards are clean and bright but the spines show sunning and minor marking. There is crushing to the spine ends, which has caused very minor splitting to the cloth.
Inside, the pages show age toning and sporadic foxing throughout and the tissue guards are very tanned. There is occasional cracking to the gutters but the pages remain tightly bound.
The books feature rough cut pages which is a lovely feature in old books. Each volume has ten colour illustration plates by A.Wallis Mills.
Each volume approximately 19cm x 13.5cm x 3cm.
The books will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
