This beautiful antique edition of Chastelard and Mary Stuart (two tragedies) were written by Algernon Charles Swinburne and published by Bernhard Tauchnitz in 1908. So the book is from the latter part of the Edwardian era.
The book is bound in half Vellum with beautiful floral paper boards. It's a really striking binding and in very good condition for it's age. The boards have some marking and soiling, and the spine is darkened. The boards are ever so slightly bowed.
Inside, the pages show age toning and occasional minor marking but are otherwise clean and bright. There are no inscriptions. There is a very slight crack to the gutter just after the title page which reveals the binding thread.
Dimensions approximately 16.2cm x 12cm x 2.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
