This beautiful, antique edition of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam was published by Macmillan in 1899. So the book is from the late Victorian Era. Even though it looks like vellum, this book is actually bound in japon paper - also known as Japanese vellum. It is a premium, plant-based paper used historically for deluxe books and high-quality art prints.
***Please note this book isn't bound in traditional vellum - it's bound in Japon paper, also known as Japanese vellum***
It's in very good condition but there is soiling to the cream binding and bumping to the corners. The spine is slightly darkened with rubbing to the floral decoration. The book is lacking ties to fore-edge of both boards.
Inside, there is a penned ownership inscription to the front pastedown and some rubbed out pencilled writing to the FFEP. The front hinge is just starting to crack slightly. The pages are clean and bright with occasional foxing.
Dimensions approximately 20.7cm x 14.2cm x 3.4cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
