This beautiful edition of The History of Henry Esmond by William Makepeace Thackeray was published by Macmillan in 1905 for their popular “Cranford” series, The books are recognisable for their teal cloth bindings and elaborate gilt decoration. All edges gilt.
It's in very good condition with light wear to the corners and minor scuffing to the back board. The spine is lightly sunned and there is crushing to the spine ends.
Inside, there is a presentation plate glued to the front pastedown and toning to the free endpapers. The tissue guard for the frontispiece is very tanned but the rest of the pages are clean and bright.
The book features beautiful black and white illustrations throughout which add to it's antique charm.
Dimensions approximately 18.6cm x 13cm x 3cm.
Every book purchased will be hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I'm gradually in the process of switching to more eco-friendly packaging, including 100% recyclable jiffy bags.
