This lovely antique edition of The Forest Lovers by Maurice Hewlett was published by Macmillan and Co in 1912.
This lovely book is bound in green cloth with delicate gilt decoration blind stamped into the front board. The spine also has gilt decoration but this is sadly dulled and rubbed.
It's in good condition for it's age but the corners show some wear and denting. The book has a slight forward lean and there is light wear and bumping to the board edges. There is a small hole in the cloth along the top edge of the front board. The text block edges are foxed and the spine is faintly sunned. As mentioned above, the gilt on the spine is very worn and dulled; crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, there is staining to the front free endpaper and sadly the frontispiece and tissue guard are detached. The pages show age toning and foxing throughout, and there are occasional cracks to the gutter. Other than the frontispiece and tissue guard, all pages remain tightly bound.
The book features tipped in colour plates by A S Hartrick which are really stunning.
Dimensions approximately 22cm x 14.5cm x 4.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubbled wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
