This quirky book of Clara in Blunderland by Caroline Lewis was published in 1902 by William Heinemann. It is a spoof of Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. It's the sixth impression of the first edition.
The book is bound in green cloth with pictorial detail and lettering to the front board. It's in good condition, with the most noticeable flaw being the discolouration, darkening and marking to the spine. The spine ends are crushed which has caused minor splitting in the cloth. The boards show light marking and soiling, and the corners are crushed and worn. There is a small stain to the bottom edge of the text block.
Inside, there is a neatly written name and date on the front free endpaper and the pages show age toning throughout. There is occasional foxing and marking to the paper, and there are also cracks to the gutter in places - despite this, the pages feel tightly bound.
There are stunning black and white illustrations throughout by S.R.
Dimensions approximately 18.7cm x 12.5cm x 2cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
