This beautiful edition of Queechy by Elizabeth Wetherell was published by Ward, Lock and Co Ltd. The book is undated but I'd estimate it to be from around 1890/1900. So the book is from the late Victorian era. It's very worn so is being sold mainly as decorative for it's beautiful front cover.
The book is bound in blue cloth with stunning decoration to the front cover and spine. There is wear to the corners, with splitting to the cloth which shows the board peeking out beneath. The text block is shaky and there is marking to the boards. The board edges show wear and bumping and the spine is very faded and rubbed. Crushing to the spine ends has caused splitting in the cloth.
Inside, there is cracking to the hinges and to the gutter in places throughout the book. The pages show light age toning, with occasional marks and foxing. There is a name sticker on the reverse of the frontispiece.
Dimensions approximately 18.3cm x 13cm x 3.3cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
