This beautiful edition of The Life of Joan of Arc by Anatole France is volume i in what would have been a set of two originally. So it's only the first half of Anatole France's work. It was published by John Lane The Bodley Head in 1923.
The book is bound in red cloth with beautiful gilt decoration to the front and spine. It's in good condition but there is fading to the spine and bottom of the back board. The front board shows some faint scratches and spotting. The corners are lightly worn and bumped and there are some minor marks to the back and spine.
Inside, the endpapers show heavy tanning but the rest of the pages show lighter age toning, with occasional foxing. There is a small ink stain to the edge of several pages. There a handful of black and white plates along with a fold out map. The bottom of the frontispiece has faint water staining.
Dimensions approximately 22.5cm x 15.5cm x 4.3cm.
The books will arrive securely wrapped in bubble wrap, patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
