This lovely edition of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam was published by London Macmillan and Co in 1908. It's bound in full calf leather by the prestigious Riviere and Son binders (stamped to the bottom of the front pastedown. Something interesting I've never seen before - it says it was bound for the Army and Navy. There are five raised bands to the spine and gilt tooling.
It's in very good condition with light wear to the board edges and corners; there is scuffing to the leather. The spine is lightly sunned and there is wear to the raised bands which has taken a bit of the surface of the leather off. There is minor loss to the head of the spine and a very slight split starting to the top of the front joint.
Inside, the endpapers are marbled and there are two penned inscriptions to preliminary blank pages. The pages are clean and bright bright with very occasional foxing.
Dimensions approximately 16.2cm x 11cm x 1.7cm
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
