This beautiful First UK Edition of Two Little Pilgrim's Progress by Frances Hodgson Burnett was published by London Frederick Warne and Co in 1895. The book is bound in brown cloth with beautiful blind stamped decoration in black and gilt to the front board and spine. All edges are gilt.
It's in very good condition but the book does show a pronounced forward lean, with wear and crushing to the corners. There is light shelf wear to the board edges and a stain to the bottom corner of the front board. The cloth shows some minor marks and there is sunning to the spine. Crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, there is a loose newspaper clipping which has caused tanning to the FFEP. There is also a circled number, a written name and a library stamp to the FFEP. There is another written name at the top of page 10. The pages show light age toning, with sporadic marking and foxing. There are some superficial cracks to the gutter in places but all pages remain tightly bound. A previous reader has dog eared a handful of pages which has left creasing behind.
The book features beautiful black and white illustrations which make it an extra special read.
Dimensions approximately 20.7cm x 15.5cm x 2.6cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
