This stunning late Victorian edition of An Introduction to the Study of Microscopic Fungi was published by WH Allen in 1898. It is bound in brown cloth with decoration in black and gilt to the front and spine.
It's in very good condition, with just light wear and crushing to the corners which has caused some fraying to the cloth. There are minor marks and scuffs to the back and slight air bubbling to the front. The spine is sunned and slightly darkened, whilst crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, there is cracking to the front hinge but all pages remain tightly bound. There is a small area of loss to the bottom corner of the tissue guard for the frontispiece and the pages show age toning throughout with occasional foxing. There is a penned name to the half title page.
The book features stunning colour plates J E Sowerby. Dimensions approximately 19.1cm x 13cm x 2.3cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
