This beautiful, antique edition of The Family Friend; A Magazine for the Home Circle was published in 1896 by S.W.Partridge and Co. So the book is from the late Victorian era. It features a collection of short stories, poetry and needlework.
The book is bound in blue cloth with stunning floral decoration and gilt to the front board. It's in very good condition with light wear and crushing to the corners and rubbing to the board edges. The book shows a slight forward lean and there are minor marks to the boards. The spine is sunned and darkened whilst crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, there is a presentation plate glued to the front pastedown and foxing to the preliminary and end pages. The rest of the pages show tanning with occasional creasing and marking. There are occasional cracks to the gutter but the pages remain tightly bound. There is also a prize stamp on the verso of the title page.
The book features black and white illustrations. Dimensions approximately 26.5cm x 19.7cm x 1.3cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
