This beautiful antique book Ocean Venture; A Boy's Book of Sea Stories, Scenes and Incidents was published by William Oliphant and Co. The book itself is undated but there is a presentation plate dated 1877. So the book is from the mid Victorian era.
At the time of listing, I can't find any other editions of this book online.
The book is bound in original green cloth with delicate blind stamped decoration and gilt to the front board and spine. It's in very good condition with just a slight forward lean and rubbing to the corners. There is foxing to the text block edges and minor marking to the boards. The spine is faintly sunned and there is crushing to the spine ends.
Inside, there is a presentation plate glued to the front pastedown; the pages show scattered foxing and occasional creasing. There is slight cracking to the gutter in places but the pages remain tightly bound.
Dimensions approximately 16.2cm x 10.3cm x 1.8cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
