This beautiful early Victorian edition of My Own Annual; A Gift Book for Boys and Girls was published by Chapman and Hall in 1847. It's bound in original red cloth but has been rebacked (a new cloth spine has been inserted and the original has been glued over the top. There is gilt decoration to the front and spine; all edges gilt.
It's in very good condition but there is wear to the corners which has caused splitting to the cloth at the bottom corners. There is bumping to the board edges and light marking/soiling to the boards. There is loss to the tail of the original spine and a split near the head. The cloth is darkened.
Inside, there are pencilled notes to the front and back pastedown and a penned inscription to the front free endpaper. The pages show age toning and scattered foxing - the foxing is heaviest to the plates and adjacent pages. The book features a colour frontispiece, black and white plates and numerous black and white illustrations within the text. The book measures approximately 17.8cm x 12.6cm x 2.2cm.
All books purchased will be hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
