This beautiful edition of Dwellers in the Arctic by Dr G Hartwig was published by Longmans, Green and Co in 1887. It's a "popular account of the men who live in the polar region". It's bound in original publisher's blue cloth over bevelled boards, with pictorial decoration to the front and spine. It's a striking binding. All edges gilt.
It's in very good condition but there is wear to the corners and minor marking to the boards. There is a small area of loss to the decoration to the front (over one of the reindeer's legs). There is crushing to the spine ends.
Inside, a bookseller's sticker has been removed to the top corner of the front pastedown and there is slight cracking to the front hinge. The pages show light age toning and scattered foxing throughout. There is also occasional creasing to the paper and cracks to the gutter (the pages remain tightly bound). Dimensions approximately 18.8cm x 12.7cm x 2cm. There are some striking black and white illustrations.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string. The bubble wrap I use is 100% biodegradable and the jiffy bags are recyclable.
Where possible, I use 100% recyclable paper tape, but sometimes I have to use clear plastic tape for extra strength.
