This lovely edition of Bracebridge Hall by Washington Irving was published by London Macmillan and Co in 1887. So the book is from the late Victorian era. The book is bound in half calf leather, with stunning marbled boards and rough cut page edges. The spine features five raised bands and beautiful gilt tooling.
The book is in remarkably good condition for it's age but there is some wear to the corners with loss to the surface of the leather. The board edges are rubbed and the boards show some scuffs, with marking to the leather. The spine is rubbed, with some wear to the leather.
Inside, the endpapers are marbled to compliment the boards and there is a name plate on the front pastedown. The pages show age toning throughout, with occasional foxing and marking. The binding thread can be seen at the gutter in places but the pages are tightly bound. There are charming black and white illustrations throughout by R Caldecott.
Dimensions approximately 19.6cm x 13.5cm x 2.5cm
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
