This stunning antique edition of Ballads of the North Countrie Edited by Graham Tomson was published by Walter Scott in 1888. It's bound in original publisher's navy cloth over bevelled boards, with pretty gilt decoration to the front board and spine. Fast Castle (featured on the front) was a fortress in Berwickshire, south-east Scotland - only the ruins remain today.
It's in near fine condition with only light wear to the corners and foxing to the text block edges. The spine is faintly sunned with crushing to the spine ends; there is minor marking to the back board.
Inside, there is a bookseller's sticker to the bottom corner of the front pastedown and a name written in pen on the title page. The pages show age toning throughout with sporadic foxing. There are occasional cracks to the gutter and the binding thread is visible in places.
Dimensions approximately 19.3cm x 14cm x 4.2cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
