This stunning book of London Pictures Drawn with Pen and Pencil by The Rev Richard Lovett was published by The Religious Tract Society in 1890. So the book is from the late Victorian era.
It is bound in brown cloth with stunning pictorial and gilt decoration to the front board and spine. It's a large book but not too heavy to hold and the book sits open very nicely.
It's in good condition but there is wear and bumping to the corners and a slight forward lean to the book. There is some wear and bumping to the board edges and light marking to the boards. There is some past water damage to the top of the back board which has caused discolouration. The spine is sunned and lightly rubbed, with crushing to the spine ends.
Inside, the pages show age toning and heavy foxing throughout. and some of the corners show creasing. The book is filled with 130 black and white illustrations. Sadly the tissue guard for the frontispiece has been removed.
Dimensions approximately 28.3cm x 20.2cm x 2cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
