This beautiful antique edition ofThe Calendar of the Months or The Young Naturalist Abroad by Rev J G Wood was published by George Routledge and Sons in 1873. The book is bound in original blue cloth over bevelled boards with striking blind stamped decoration in black and gilt to the front and spine. All edges gilt.
It's in very good condition but the book does show a forward lean and there is wear to the corners and board edges. There is minor rubbing and marking to the boards and the spine is sunned, with rubbing to the spine edges. Crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, there is a penned name on the FFEP and some pencilled writing opposite the half title page. The pages show light age toning, as well as sporadic foxing. There are some cracks to the gutter in places with one slightly loose page segment.
The book is illustrated with black and white illustrations within the text. Dimensions approximately 16.5cm x 11cm x 1.7cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
