This stunning antique edition of The Talisman by Walter Scott A Tale of the Crusaders was published by Walter Scott. The book is undated but I'd estimate it to be from the turn of the century (circa 1900).
The book is bound in blue cloth with beautiful floral and gilt decoration to the front board and spine. It's a really striking binding and not one I'd come across before.
It's in very good condition but the corners show light wear and crushing. There is rubbing to the board edges and the boards show minor marks and scuffs. The spine is sunned, with some dulling to the floral pattern - the gilt still looks bright. The spine ends are crushed and there is dulling to the top edge of the text block.
Inside, the book appears to be missing either a frontispiece or half title page - there is cracking to the gutter at the title page. There is a name and address in red pencil opposite the title page. The pages show age toning throughout, with scattered foxing.
Dimensions approximately 19cm x 13.2cm x 2.8cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
