This stunning antique edition of The Quiver of Love features A Collection of Valentine Poetry. It was published by Marcus Ward and Co in 1876 so the book is from the mid Victorian era. It has been Rebacked.
This beautiful book is bound in green cloth over bevelled boards with blind stamped decoration in gilt to the front and black to the spine. All edges gilt. It's in good condition but as mentioned above, it's undergone some restoration work in the form of a spine reback (a new cloth spine is attached before the original spine is glued over the top). There is some loss to the edges of the original spine and a horizontal tear in the cloth. There is wear and bumping to the board edges and corners, with splitting to the cloth at the corners to reveal the board beneath. The gilt is dulled and rubbed, more noticeably to the spine than the front. The boards show minor marks and rubbing and there is a small dent to the top edge of the front board.
Inside, the hinges are cracked and there is an ex libris name plate glued to the front pastedown. The pages show age toning and foxing throughout, with occasional handling marks. There are some absolutely stunning colour plates by Walter Crane and Kate Greenaway.
Dimensions approximately 28.9cm x 17.7cm x 2.7cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string. The bubble wrap I use is 100% biodegradable and the jiffy bags are recyclable.
Where possible, I use 100% recyclable paper tape, but sometimes I have to use clear plastic tape for extra strength.
