This beautiful vintage edition of Shakespeare's Heroines by Anna Jameson was published by Ernest Nister and Co. The book is undated but it's circa 1904. The book is bound in beige cloth over bevelled boards, with gilt lettering and pictorial decoration to the front and spine. All edges gilt.
It's in good condition but there is bumping to the board edges and marking to the beige cloth. The spine is darkened, with dulling and rubbing to the decoration. Crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, the endpapers are illustrated in a beautiful art nouveau style. The book features six colour plates and 70 half tone plates. The pages show foxing and handling marks throughout, with occasional creasing. Two of the plates also have a small tear to the bottom edge but this doesn't reach the illustration. There are some superficial cracks to the gutter but the pages remain tightly bound.
Dimensions approximately 21.5cm x 16cm x 3.2cm.
The book will be hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubbled wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
