This stunning French book Les Apotres de Charite was published in 1865. It features a lovely purple card binding with gilt decoration to the boards. Purple was an unusual colour for 19th Century bindings so it's always lovely to find one.
As like many purple bindings however, the spine is faded and discoloured, with dulling to the gilt. The front board is still bright and vivid, with minor marking and rubbing to the cloth. The back board is dulled and there is rubbing to the gilt. There is some minor chipping to the surface of the binding, most prominent around the board edges. There is also bumping to the spine ends and corners, and occasionally to the board edges.
Inside, the pages are clean and bright with occasional foxing and creasing. Dimensions approximately 22.3cm x 14cm x 2cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned paper and string. The bubble wrap I use is 100% biodegradable and the jiffy bags are recyclable.
Where possible, I use 100% recyclable paper tape, but sometimes I have to use clear plastic tape for extra strength.
