This stunning antique edition of The Choice Works of Oliver Goldsmith was published by William Nimmo in 1880. So the book is mid Victorian.
The book is bound in brown cloth over bevelled boards with blind stamped decoration in black and gilt to the front board and spine. All edges gilt.
It's in near fine condition with light wear to the corners and board edges. The gilt edges show minor marking and scuffing. There is light marking and scuffing to the back board; crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, there is a bookseller’s sticker to the bottom corner of the front pastedown and the number 36 in the opposite top corner. The pages show light age toning and scattered foxing throughout. There is very slight cracking to the front hinge and occasionally to the gutter in places but the pages remain tight to the binding. Someone has written the number 65 in pencil in the top corner of the first Contents page.
Dimensions approximately 18.7cm x 13.5cm x 3.3cm. The book has a handful of black and white plates.
All books purchased will be hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I'm gradually switching over to eco-friendly packaging, including 100% recyclable jiffy bags :)
