This stunning edition of The Ingoldsby Legends Myths and Marvels by Thomas Ingoldsby was published by Richard Bentley and Sons in 1882. It's bound in original red cloth with blind stamped decoration in gilt and black to the front board and gilt to the spine - I particularly love the gilt witch on the spine!
It's in very good condition but there is a small water stain to the front board and an area of discolouration to the top corner of the back board. The corners are lightly rubbed and there is foxing to the text block edges. There is fading to both the front and spine, with light soiling to the cloth. Crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, there is a name plate glued to the front pastedown and two written inscriptions on the verso of the FFEP. The pages show age toning throughout, with sporadic foxing and creasing. There are beautiful black and white illustrations inside which add to the charm of this antique volume. The illustrators include Cruikshank, Leech and Tenniel.
Dimensions approximately 19.3cm x 13.7cm x 3.5cm.
Each book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon.
In an effort to be more eco friendly, I like to use second hand and recycled packaging when posting my products. If you would prefer new packaging, then that is absolutely fine. Please just include a message for me when you place your order, stating that this is what you'd like!
