This stunning edition of The Book Hunter by John Hill Burton was published by William Blackwood in 1900. It celebrates the joys, obsessions and eccentricities of Book Collectors. Not only does it explore the habits and psychology of people who collect rare books, it also blends humour and historical anecdotes about book hunting.
The book is bound in original blue cloth with red and gilt detail to the front and spine. It's in very good condition with light wear and bumping to the corners and board edges. There is light marking to the cloth and the spine is sunned. There is crushing to the spine ends.
Inside, the pages show light age toning throughout with scattered foxing. There is very slight cracking to the front hinge but the pages remain tight to the binding. Dimensions approximately 20.7cm x 14.6cm x 2.7cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
