This stunning edition ofThe Illustrated Natural History by Rev J G Wood was published by George Routledge and Co in 1853. It's bound in original blue cloth with very pretty gilt decoration to the front board and spine. All edges gilt.
The book is in very good condition with light wear and crushing to the corners. There is also rubbing to the boards and board edges and a small area of loss to the gilt on the front. The spine is sunned and a little rubbed, whilst crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, there is a penned number nine to the top corner of the front free endpaper. There are cracks to the gutter in places but no loose pages. The pages are clean and bright but do show scattered foxing throughout. There are an incredible 450 black and white illustrations within the text.
Dimensions approximately 18.2cm x 12.5cm x 3.8cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
