This stunning and scarce edition of Monsters of the Sea; Legendary and Authentic with Numerous Illustrations by John Gibson was published by Thomas Nelson and Sons in 1887. So the book is from the mid Victorian era. It's bound in original brown cloth, with blind stamped decoration in black and gilt to the front.
It's in very good condition with light wear and crushing to the corners and minor wear/bumping to the board edges. The boards show minor marking whilst the spine is sunned and marked. There is crushing to the spine ends.
Inside, there are no inscriptions but the free endpapers are tanned. The pages are clean and bright with occasional marking and there are also occasional cracks to the gutter (the pages remain tightly bound). The book features striking black and white plates. Collated and complete.
Dimensions approximately 18.6cm x 12.9cm x 1.8cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
