This beautiful mid Victorian edition of Helen of Troy, Her Life and Translation Done into Rhyme from the Greek by Andrew Lang was published by Bell and Sons in 1883. It is bound in full calf with five raised bands and gilt tooling to the spine. There is a college insignia blind stamped in gilt to the front board. Text block edges marbled.
The book is in very good condition with the most noticeable flaw being some loss to the surface of the leather on the spine which has obscured the gilt decoration. There is marking and scuffing to the leather and light wear to the corners.
Inside, the endpapers are marbled to match the text block edges and there is light age toning and scattered foxing throughout; there is also occasional marking and loss to the bottom corner of Page 49. Two small tears to the edge of one of the preliminary pages has been repaired.
Dimensions of the book are approximately 18.7cm x 12.7cm x 2.2cm.
Every book purchased will be hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
