This beautiful edition of The Young Englishwoman is A Volume of Pure Literature, New Fashions and Pretty Needlework Designs and was published by Ward, Lock and Co in 1871. So the book is mid Victorian. It's bound in half calf with five raised bands, gilt detail and a leather title label to the spine.
It's in good condition, but there is significant wear and loss to the leather at the corners and spine ends. The boards are marked with some small stains to the back. The spine has some chipping to the surface of the leather and splitting to the spine ends.
Inside, there is slight cracking to the front hinge and gutter in places but the pages are tightly bound. The pages show age toning and occasional foxing.
There are fold out illustrations and needlework designs which really add to the charm of this antique book. There are no colour fashion plates - just black and white illustrations.
Dimensions approximately 24.7cm x 18cm x 4cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubbled wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
